Politics of English : A Marxist View of Language

A reappraisal of the way in which language is shaped by, and contributes to, social life. Taking a Marxist approach, it focuses on three areas: the global spread of English in relation to international capitalism and colonialism; the ideological underpinnings of English; and language and sexism.
