Exiles in Hollywood (Limelight")

In the 1930s, many Jewish refugees escaping Nazi Europe and other exiles who were well-established or rising stars flocked to Los Angeles. A veteran Hollywood chronicler presents dramatic profiles of 33 luminaries and their varied fates in this "alien paradise" tied to the film industry: film producers (e.g. Fritz Lang), actors (Hedy Lemarr), composers (Stravinsky), conductors (Bruno Walter), musicians (Heifetz); authors (Thomas Mann), and architects (Richard Neutra).
