Biblical studies and food studies have much to offer one another. While studies of food in the Bible have grown significantly in recent years, there is a more rich and robust conversation about the function and meaning of food to be had. Food, Gender, and Power in the Book of Samuel models a fresh approach to this interdisciplinary conversation. Engaging a variety of theoretical frameworks for thinking about food, the book uses close readings of four biblical narratives about women and food to demonstrate how work at this intersection can be deeper for biblical scholars and broader for food scholars.
