This book contains a wide array of cultural-historical contributions that center on distinctive figures of German literary history from the Middle Ages to the Modern Age and their struggles with the challenges and impositions of their historical reality. In particular, the research into hitherto neglected sources reveals how individuals proved themselves in their historical contexts.
