Peter Asher : A Life in Music

As a musician, award-winning producer, and talent manager, Peter Asher has both witnessed and participated in seismic changes in the music business—from the British Invasion in the 1960s to corporate takeovers of independent labels in the 1970s; from the MTV era to the nearly unrecognizable industry of today. Throughout, he has been virtually alone in his success as a hitmaker and producer for world-famous artists. His ability to produce projects across a vast range of genres—rock, country, jazz, classical, movie soundtracks—is simply without peer. In this extraordinary account—the product of over twelve years of research—author David Jacks tells Asher’s story with verve and warmth. It draws on hours spent interviewing Asher, who granted exclusive access to his personal archives. Jacks also weaves in recollections from artists and friends including James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, Cher, David Crosby, Marianne Faithfull, Steve Martin, Robin Williams, and many more. In a business rife with shady characters, Peter Asher’s intelligence, honesty, and business sense have earned the respect of all he’s worked with. As this unforgettable biography shows, he has quite a story to tell.
