Loeffler, a writer, aural historian, producer of documentary radio programs, sound collage artist, and lecturer, collects interviews mostly drawn from a radio series he produced in 1984, "Southwest Sound Collage," in which he spoke with writers, environmentalists, historians, artists, and others like Edward Abbey, Andrew Weil, John Nichols, Anna Sofaer, Stewart Udall, and Gary Snyder, who present their views on topics like the privatization of water rights, the population increase, the fate of indigenous peoples, the effects of mass media, digital technology and the natural world, whether money is the root of all evil, and other questions of the human condition.
