Fostering Potential in Children with Special Needs : An Abilities-Oriented Perspective on Early Childhood Motor Development

An innovative contribution to therapeutic practice, Fostering Potential in Children with Special Needs provides a comprehensive introduction to the Jeremy Krauss Approach JKA. Building on the teachings of Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais and informed by decades of clinical work, the JKA methodology integrates expressive movement therapy, emotional regulation and physical development, guiding readers toward a more inclusive and abilities-oriented form of practice when working with children experiencing difficulties in neurological, musculoskeletal, psychological, or socio-emotional domains. Firmly grounded in practical application, the JKA methodology emphasizes close observation and understanding of developmentally relevant movement sequences and individual patterns, focusing on the dynamic aspects of transitional movements and positions. Rather than concentrating solely on limitations or deficits, the approach recognizes each child's individual abilities, supporting their unique developmental potential. This book contributes significantly to disability studies by reframing how practitioners perceive and support children with developmental challenges. By shifting the paradigm from disability to ability, this book fills critical gaps in the understanding of child development and therapeutic approaches. Empowering readers with observational frameworks and practical techniques, this book is an invaluable resource for physical therapists, occupational therapists, developmental specialists, special educators and parents.
