Marcia Brown's Caldecott Honor-winning, classic picture book—now available in an oversized classroom edition!
When three hungry soldiers come marching down the road toward a small village, they are dismayed to see that the unhappy townspeople have hidden away all the food. There's nothing left for the soldiers but stones, and in the battle of wits that follows, the soldiers must not only outsmart the villagers for a bite to eat, but also impart an important lesson.
The dancing, the laughter, the feast, and the vibrant, detailed illustrations ensure that children will return to this timeless story again and again.
