Iceland and the Faroe Islands Seen from within and without : Cross-cultural Perspectives, 17th-21st century (Arctic Humanities)

This volume provides new interdisciplinary perspectives on cultural representations of the Faroe Islands and Iceland, from the 18th century to the present day. The contributions focus on some well-known writers and explorers such as Jean-Baptiste Charcot, Vilhjalmur Stefansson, William Heinesen or Halldór Laxness as well as less well-known figures, but also artists such as Ingálvur av Reyni, Zacharias Heinesen and Hulda Rós Guðnadóttir. Other contributions are dedicated to cultural icons such as puffins as well as topics related to exploration, nation-building, whale hunting, tourism and crime fiction. The volume ends with two original contributions from creative writers Carl Jóhan Jensen and Hallgrímur Helgason.
